5 things to know about the Galaxy A8
Samsung is starting 2018 by launching the A8, a mid-range smartphone that is (increasingly) catching up with the S-series. Get the low down here.
No sooner announced than available
Was presented on 19 December and is already available at Orange at the beginning of this year. Samsung wanted to move quickly and so much the better! The Galaxy A8 is taking over from the A3 and A5 of the last two years, but its price has been revised upwards (499€). To give you some idea, the Galaxy A5 2017 was available at a price of 429€.
Inspired by the S8
Its design was clearly inspired by the Galaxy S8 - the A series is clearly going up in the world! - : the A8 is equipped with a Super Amoled 18/9 display (increasingly popular) of 5.6 inches. All in HD+, with a resolution of 1080 × 2220 pixels.
An (almost) immersive display
Its display is button-free, a widespread trend. On this model, the faceplate covers about 75% of the front panel, against 84% for the S8. The edges are not curved, unlike the Note 8 and S8.
Two sensors ... at the front
The originality of the A8. It offers two photo sensors. A simple sensor at the back, of 16 megapixels. And a double sensor at the front, for selfies with portrait mode. A real innovation if you tend to use the front sensor a lot, of course!
Android 8.0 ... but not right now
The embedded system is Android Nougat (7.1). Samsung hasn’t gone to the effort of immediately offering Android 8 Oreo on this model. Arm yourself with patience, because the update - which has already been confirmed! - will not be available until next spring. No specific date has been given at this stage.
